Topshop and Google go Hi Tec for LFW

Topshop Unique was among many of the labels to stream their AW13 show online this season.  Through signing up to Google + you could gain coveted front row access to one of this year’s hottest shows featuring models of the moment Cara Delevingne, Jourdan Dunn and Yumi Lambert.  This approach to the AW13 shows provides instant fashion fixes for those who are dedicated to trends and fashion but who didn’t receive invites to the show – genius!  Unique also used the innovative technique of ‘Model Cam’, whereby models carry chic handbags with imbedded cameras, meaning that those watching from home could see everything from a models perspective and pretend they were strutting down the catwalk too.

The mysterious surroundings of London’s Tate provided the venue, while an infectious soundtrack was supplied by Rodion and Alison Valentine and mixed by Mimi Xu.  This Nineties centric collection featured past seasons hottest colour oxblood, dusty pink sequinned skater skirts, retro browns and a blood red which was used on lacquered jackets and skirts demonstrating the label’s focus on a plethora of textures.   Silhouettes were both masculine, with boxy shirts and donkey jackets and ladylike with midi-length sequinned skirts playing a large part in the show.  Cigarette trousers were juxtaposed with on-the-hip and looser fitting long length trousers, while outfits were finished off with fur stools, voluminous proportioned parkas and one incredible camel shearling coat.  Tops, bralets and jumpers were cropped so toned stomachs will be one of AW13 best accessories.

The finale piece of the show was a stunning oxblood sequinned jumpsuit worn by Jourdan Dunn, which played in the lights of the show and at the end of the show, attendee’s such as Kate Bosworth, Demi Lovato, Pixie Geldof and bizarrely One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson (who knew…?) were treated to a projection of the models on the Tate’s walls, a piece of art in itself.

My mental countdown till when this hits all Topshop shops began almost immediately after the show ended, I’ll be hoping to pick up some oxblood sequinned goods and of course, that shearling coat.
